John Cicero Hutchison, Sr
Civil War Veteran
September 20, 1845 - May 11, 1933
Son of Charles Harrison Hutchison and Dorcas Adeline Thompson Hutchison.
John joined the Civil War at the age of fifteen or sixteen along with his older brother James.
John married Margaret Catherine Sharp February 23, 1872. They opened a small drug store in Linden. They soon moved the business to Texarkana Road at Lanark Crossing, five miles north of Atlanta. From here he and another businessman, Mr. Alec Pace relocated their businesses two and a half miles north of Atlanta. They named the little town QUEEN CITY.
John began manufacturing medicines in his drug store. His salesman drove far and near, selling Hutchison's Magic Oil, Big-Head Liniment, Flux and Diarrhea Remedies, Cough Syrups and other medicines.
John and Margaret were active leaders in the Methodist Church. John was Sunday school superintendent for many years. Their home became a haven for many sick, homeless, and elderly neighbors.
