Jack Adams Killed
On Thursday morning about eight o’clock in front of Clint Dickson’s house just on the western edge of Temple, Mr. Jack Adams was shot and killed by T. M. Keith. A shot gun was used, and the load entered the breast over the heart.
Adams was coming to Belton in a surrey with Mrs. Keith and Mrs. Sullivan. He had known Mrs. Keith from girlhood, and had interested himself in divorce proceedings in the district court. They were coming to Belton for a hearing when the killing occurred.
The ladies were thrown from the vehicle, sustaining slight injuries. Keith first ran to Dickson’s house, but was denied admission, and from there went to Eb Leaks, crawling under the house. He at first stood off the officers, but finally surrendered, and before noon was safe in the Belton jail, Constable Roper making the arrest. Sheriff Tankersley was promptly on the ground shortly after the killing.
Jack Adams was known to everybody in and around Temple, being the collector for many years for Nunneley & Chattin. He owned a farm near there and a ranch out west. His friends say his interest in the trouble between Keith and wife was purely that of disinterested friendship.
Keith will be indicted by the grand jury now in session, and the case will likely come to trial at the present term of the court.
