Fort Bend Herald, February 28, 2007:

Steve Noriega Sr., 69, of Galveston, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Paul Flajole, OFM celebrant. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Steve was born Nov. 28, 1939 in Needville to Manuel Noriega and Paula Salazar Noriega. He attended school in Rosenberg and married Ernestine "Tina" Gonzales in 1957 and moved to Galveston where they reared their family.

He was a member of LULAC Council No. 151 in Galveston. Steve was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt elk, deer, and duck, and loved to fish. He was a supervisor with Western Geophysical, an occupation that allowed him to travel around the vast majority of the world, an activity that he greatly enjoyed.

He was a loyal husband, devoted father, and a wonderful grandfather. Many people adopted him as their father, grandfather, or uncle because of his loving and giving nature. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Concepcion Noriega.

Survivors include his wife of 49 1/2 years, Tina Noriega of Galveston; daughter, Tina Renee Alegria of Austin; son, Steve Noriega Jr. of Galveston; sisters, Sylvia Gonzales, Helen Linares and husband, Arthur, all of Rosenberg, and Anita Trevino and husband, Ray, of Richmond; grandchildren, Joseph Steven Alegria and Jacquelyn Faye Alegria; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers are Joseph Steven Alegria, Ernest Leal Sr., Diego Cortez Sr., Gilbert Gonzales, Dale Oskerson, and Fabian Salazar. Honorary pallbearers are Alfred Gonzales Jr., Ernest Leal Jr., Ted Herrera, and Victor Alcorta Sr.

Services are under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont, Galveston, Texas 77550. 409-765-8080.
