SANTA FE - Mr. Vernon Carl Gallup passed from this life Monday evening, October 15, 2001, at his home.

Born December 5,1927, in Independence, Kansas, Mr. Gallup had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1966, previously of Galveston. He had been employed as a Yardmaster and Switchman for Galveston Wharves, Santa Fe Railroad and Southern Pacific Railroad for many years, retiring in 1983. He had been a member of First Lutheran Church of Independence, Kansas, served in the U.S. Navy and US Army during WWII and enjoyed carpentry and spending time fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret Gallup; daughter and son-in-law Selma Jean and Dan Cantrell of Algoa; sons and daughtersin-law, Vernon Lee and Marie Gallup of Humble, Harry and Louise Gallup of Hitchcock and Glen and Terry Gallup of Livingston; brother, Billy
Gallup of Topeka, Kansas; sisters, Hazel Schaffer and Gaye Beddel of Independence, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Reverend Lynn Wilson officiating. Entombment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the
funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, 925-3501.

Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to Amed Hospice, 2919 Palmer Highway, Texas City Texas, 77591.
