Cpl. Johnny Mac Anderson, a 19-year-old U.S. Marine who once lived in Borger, was killed last Sunday by enemy gun-fire in Vietnam, according to a message received by his parents Wednesday in Amarillo.
Anderson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Powers Anderson of 1508 Travis, Amarillo. He was hit by enemy rifle fire while on patrol from a base at Quang Tri, South Vietnam.
The corporal, who went to Vietnam in February, was assigned to a reconnaissance battalion of the 3rd Marine Division. He entered military service in August, 1966.
A native of Borger, Anderson attended Borger High School and Caprock High School in Amarillo. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Borger.
He is survived by his parents; brothers, Huston of Weatherford, Okla., Billy Gilmore of Tulsa and Eddy Gilmroe of Montebello, Calif.; a sister, Robyn, of the home; and grandfathers, John C. Huston of Fontana, Calif., and W.W. Anderson of Fort Worth.
Simpson Funeral Home of Borger is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Final rites for Marine Cpl. Johnny Mac Anderson, 19, native Borgan, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Christian Church. The Rev. Kenneth Jones, pastor, will be assisted by the Rev. Fred Gabler, pastor of Rose Hill Community Church at Tulsa, Okla., in the service.
Cpl. Anderson was killed by enemy rifle fire Nov. 10 while he was on patrol in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He went to Vietnam in February, with the U.S. 3rd Marine Division.
The body of Cpl. Anderson arrived in Amarillo by plane at 5:55 a.m. today and will lie in state at Simpson's Funeral Home Thursday and Friday until one hour before the funeral.
Military graveside rites will be conducted in Highland Park Cemetery. Burial will be directed by Simpson's.
Anderson was born in Borger and attended Borger High School before moving to Amarillo where he attended Caprock High School. He enlisted in the military service in August 1966. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William P. Anderson, Amarillo; brothers, Huston of Weatherford, Okla., Billy Gilmore of Tulsa, and Eddy Gilmore of Montebello, Calif.; sister, Robyn of the home; grandfathers, John C. Huston of Fontana, Calif., and W.W. Anderson of Fort Worth.
