W.P. "Bill" Mongold, 80, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount, with the Rev. Robert E. Field, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery of Borger.

Mr. Mongold was born in Sapulpa, Okla. He moved to Borger in 1926, and lived there until 1973. He graduated from Borger High School in 1941.

He was a veteran in the Naval Air Corps where he was the aviation ordnance man. He was discharged in 1945. He received an associate in arts degree from Frank Phillips College in 1952.

He had worked as an engineer in the Dowell Division of Dow Chemical Co. He moved to Amarillo in 1982. He married Ruby Giles on Nov. 2, 1942, in Dumas.

After retirement, he spent his time woodworking and making stained glass, which he enjoyed giving to friends and family.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and later Coulter Road Baptist Church. He had been a member of the Holiday Travel Club and the WAGGS Travel Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife on May 6, 1998.

Survivors include his children, Joycelyn Miller of Salado, Randy Mongold of Tomball and Lavon Phillips of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
