BLACKWELL, - E.C. "Coach" Roberts, 68, Blackwell, died Wednesday in Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in First Christian Church in Borger with the Rev. Robert Smith, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

A native of Blue Jacket, Okla., he lived in Denver City for 16 years prior to moving to Blackwell three years ago. He was a senior engineering technician for ARCO Oil and Gas. He was an U.S. Army veteran in World War II 77th Field Artiliary [sic], member of Baptist Church in Barnsdall, Okla.; graduate of Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., where he played football and baseball, and was in Minor League baseball, welter weight boxing. He was active in sports all his life.

Survivors include his wife, Billie of the home; one son, Rob Roberts of San Angelo; three daughters, Sharron Bryant of Alpine; Joeanna Roberts of Grapevine; Diann McKenzie of Midland; one brother, Gavin Sumpter of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Pauline Hunter of Topeka, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Argo, Gary Argo, Chad Gatson, Wade McKenzie, Larry Bryant, and Lynn Turpin.

The family will be staying at the Warren Argo home, 207 Chapparal [sic]; and at the Jeff Porter home at 813 E. Davis in Sanford.
