Billy Joe Tedford, 16-year-old son of Mr and Mrs. Lonnie W. Tedford Sr., of Fritch, died Saturday evening in a Hinton, Okla., hospital from injuries received at 6:45 Saturday morning in a three-car collision 20 miles east of Weatherford, Okla., on Highway 66.
The collision was of the "chain reaction" type and the Tedford car was the third car involved. Reports from officials stated that the first car, traveling downhill, slammed on its brakes in order to miss a pack of dogs running across the highway. A second car halted to miss the first car and the third car, in which the Tedfords were riding, flipped about three times.
Other than the parents, survivors include three brothers; Lonnie Jr., Alton, 13; and Cecil, 2, all of Fritch; five sisters, Mrs. Joe Thomas, Tatum, New Mexico; Mrs. Frances Caddell, Mt. Gaylor, Ark.; Frankie, Barbara Ann, Ruby Faye, all of Fritch.
The body is resting at the Minton Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.
