John Monroe "J M" Chadwick was born on October 7, 1822
to Jehu/John Chadwick and Mary "Polly" Scudder in Fayette, Pennsylvania.

In 1846, he became the husband of Elizabeth C.(Bridge) Chadwick and they are the parents of Franklin "Frank" Bridge, Abigail Chadwick (1847–1847), Martha Mary Chadwick Fisher (1849), Mary Cate Chadwick (1850–1852), LeRoy C Chadwick (1851–1856), Leroy C. Chadwick (1852–1856), Jehu John Chadwick (1854–1888), William Chadwick (1859), Edith Chadwick (1862-1863).

After she died he married Elizabeth Louise (Start) Chadwick. The 1880 Census shows them as husband and wife with a son; George Chadwick (born in 1879). In 1884, they had another son; Jay M. Chadwick. "Louisa" was on the 1900 Census as head of household with her two boys.

Mr. Chadwick died on April 28, 1897 in Juda, Green County, Wisconsin. He is buried with both of his wives. John preceded his second wife in death by 7 years.
