The Wheeler community was saddened to hear of the sudden death of Joseph Jackson Ayres, who died on December 24th, and funeral services were held at the Wheeler Church of Christ on Saturday, December 28th at ? o'clock. B.M. Litton, pastor, was in charge, assisted by ? R. Ferguson, minister of the Church of Christ at Twitty. Skeeter Dodson, of Twitty, led in the song services.

Joseph Ayres, son of Joseph Samuel and Sarah Frances Ayres, was born in Spencerburg, Mo. Jan. 13, 1869. He grew to manhood in Missouri and came to Oklahoma in 1893 where he filed ? miles south of Cordell.

He was married to Hattie Donica on April 6, 1902, and to this union eight children were born, three of whom preceded him in death. Fannie and Joseph both passed away in childhood and T.J. died of Typhus in the islands of New Guinea on December 9, 1944.

Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Hattie Ayres, three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Webb, Dill City, Okla., Mrs. Correne White, Tucson, Arizona, Mrs. Ruby Jones of Wheeler; two sons, Willis Ayers of Fresno, Cal., Clyde Ayres of Shamrock; one brother, A.E. Ayres of Salida, Colorado, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were the nephews: C.G., A.T., ?, Homer, Leslie, and ?.

Honorary pallbearers were: ? R.G. Russ, Jr., ?, L.R. Barry, A.A.?, C.C. Merritt.

Flower girls were: Miss Viola Ayres, Mrs. Grady Havenhill, ? Mae Haws, Mrs. ?, Miss Nelda Barry, ? Pettit, Mrs. Olin ?, Mrs. W.H. Black.

The Ayres moved to Wheeler thirteen years ago. His personality was such that he made many friends. He became a member of the Church of Christ in August and at the time of his death was active church worker. H was loved by all who knew him. Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery.
