Lemuel Guthrie was born in Lavaca County, Texas, October 7, 1872. He passed away at the home of his son in Wheeler, at 4:45 a.m. on March 9, 1957, at the age of 84 years, five months and two days.
He came to Wheeler in 1930, then moved to Eden in 1947. He returned to Wheeler to make his home. He had only been back in Wheeler two months.
He had followed several occupations, but was a car dealer for quite some time. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and was well and favorably known in and around Wheeler.
Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church in Wheeler, March 11, 1957, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. M.B. Smith of Pampa officiating.
Pallbearers were: Percy Farmer, Lawrence Crowder, Harry Wofford, George Hefley, Jack Garrison, and Barney Burgess.
Named as Honorary pallbearers were: C.C. Robison, R.H. Forrester, Frank Wofford, Harold Nicholson, Ed Watson, Levi Reid, A.R. Meek, and Nelson Porter.
Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Home Service.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Lena Guthrie of Wheeler, and children Mrs. Lennie Day, and Mrs. Lillie Edmondson, both of Tipton, Okla., Lee Guthrie of Wheeler, Mrs. L.H. Dirickson of Matador and Lamar Guthrie of Erick, Okla.
Also surviving are four grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. One daughter and sister and four brothers preceded him in death.
