Wellington Leader January 31, 1980
Ira Melton Passons, 86, died in Collingsworth General Hospital at 3:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, after being in ill health several years.
A retired farmer, Mr. Passons was a long time Wheeler resident before entering Thomas Nursing Center in 1974. He was an uncle of Dick Pendleton.
Mr. Passons was born May 30, 1893 at Red Knob, near Sparta, TN, the sons of the Rev. Jeremiah H. and Mehalia Passons. His mother died in 1896 near Galveston.
A member of First Baptist church, Wheeler, he had been a deacon 50 years.
He was married to Nannie Lee Pendleton at Allen on October 3, 1915. They had two sons, Walter Glenn Passons and James Perry Passons, and all three preceded him in death, Walter Glenn in 1934, James Perry on Saipan in 1944, and Mrs. Passons in 1954.
