James Nelson Porter, 66, passed away at his home, Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1970.

Mr. Porter was born March 12, 1902 in Wheeler. His father was G.W. Porter and his mother was the former Cordie Ellen Kelsey. He was married to Mary Grace Griffin in Wheeler in 1929.

Mr. Porter had lived in Wheeler Co. all of his life. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Porter were pioneer settlers in Wheeler County. He had been a farmer and rancher all of his life. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors were his wife, Grace of Wheeler; 1 daughter, Mrs. David Crouch of Bartlesville, Okla., 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Douglas Lewis of San Antonio, Tex.; 2 brothers, Dennis of Wheeler and George of Wheeler, 2 grandsons and 4 step-grandsons.

Services were in the First United Methodist Church of Wheeler Sat., February 21, 1970 at 2:00 P.M. Officiating minister was Rev. Wilbur Gaede with Rev. Keith McCormick, assisting.

Pall bearers were Harold Kenady, Harold Nash, Shorty Sechrist, Richard Brown, Harrison Hall, Gene Hall, C.J. VanZandt, N.D. Ware, Jr., and Honorary Pallbearers were Harry Wofford, Tom Britt, Cecil Snelgrooes and music was provided by Albert Marshall.

Burial service was in the Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Wright-Denson Funeral Home.
