William Edward Watson was born in the state of Georgia, on June 25th, 1879, and passed away at Wheeler, April 13, 1957, at 11:15 p.m., at the age of 77 years, nine months and eighteen days.

He was married to Josephine Foster at True, Texas in 1903 and came from Young County to Shamrock and vicinity in 1911, then to Wheeler in 1917. He was a cotton buyer and grower but retired from that trade a few years ago. At the time of his death he was the owner and operator of the Wheeler Hotel. He had been a member of of [sic] the Baptist Church for many years, and was also a 32 degree Mason and member of Keva [sic] Shrine Temple of Amarillo.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Wheeler, April 15, 1957 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. P.D. Fillingim of Borger, assisted by Rev. M.B. Smith of Pampa officiating. Masonic rites at the graveside was held by the Wheeler Lodge.

Interment was in Wheeler Cemetery beside his wife who passed away December 13, 1945 with arrangements by Kirk Funeral Home.

Named as Honorary pallbearers were: J.C. Moore, Sr., J.W. Hooker, Ben Wofford, Terrel Gunter, Tobe Frye, Harry Frye, Nelson Porter and Albert Gunter.

Serving as pallbearers were Jess Moore, Spud Moore, Carl Laflin, A.H. Scott, Robert Holt, Sr., Stanley Mohr, Glen Render, and Fred Farmer.

Surviving are: one son, Alfred B. Watson and one brother, Sam Watson, both of Wheeler; three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Allen of Amarillo, Mrs. Mattie Collingsworth of Amarillo, and Mrs. May Noah of Wheeler. Also one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and two sisters.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral of Ed Watson were: Mrs. Mattie Collingsworth, Cecil Collingsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Northan Prickett, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Lee Waller, Mr. and Mrs. Al Everitt, and Linda, Mr. and Mrs. John Smithee and Johnny, all of Amarillo.

Miss Margaret Watson of Abilene, Mr. and Mrs. Armand Sandifer of Cross Plains, Mrs. R.T. Pevey, Mr. and Mrs. John Noah and Susan of Dallas, Mrs. Harold Hardcastle of Sherman, Mr. Chas. Watson, Mrs. Ida Cole, Mrs. Myrtle Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Terrell of Newcastle, Texas.
