"Songwriter"
Brief biography, composed by person submitting photo:
Mac Morris Davis was born January 21, 1942 to Thomas Jefferson Davis and Edith Irene Lankford.
Mac Davis had a long career and has an impressive list of accomplishments. He wrote at least one song for Dolly Parton and wrote or co-wrote three songs for Elvis Presley: “In the Ghetto,” “A Little Less Conversation,” and “Memories.”
During his roughly 60-year career, he had his own television show (The Mac Davis Show) from 1974-1976, and appeared in several films. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006. He also appeared on Broadway.
On more than one occasion, he said that of all the songs he composed, his favorite was “Texas in My Rearview Mirror.” The final line in the song is “And when I die, you can bury me in Lubbock, Texas...in my jeans.”
