McGlothlin, Carl, 83, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, February 15, 2001, in a local nursing home. Memorial funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 17, 2001, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Donnell and Mike Couch, both of First Baptist Church, officiating. Private graveside serivces will be held at 9:00 AM Saturday at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born on January 6, 1918 in Bartlett, Texas and married Iris Elizabeth Turner on January 6, 1946 in Temple, Texas. Mr. McGlothlin accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and joined the Baptist Church. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Big Spring since 1962.

He was a 20 year veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1939 to 1959. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor and witnessed the bombing by Japan and was present on the USS Missouri for the signing of the Peace Treaty. After retirement he attended the University of Texas and received his BA Degree. He came to Big Spring in 1962 and went to work for Social Security, retiring in 1983 after 20 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Turner McGlothlin of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Ayn and Dave Canning of Edmond, Oklahoma; three granddaughters, Kathryn Elizabeth Ivey and husband, John, of Coalgate, Oklahoma, Heather Ayn Dorris and husband, Jody, of Laredo and Kimberly Canning of Edmond, Oklahoma; one sister and brother-in-law, Myrtice and Berkley Barfield of Forrest Cove; two sisters-in-law, Adah McGlothlin of Uvalde and Opal Patrick Turner of San Angelo; nieces and nephews, Gayle Daniel of Taylor, Peggy McGlothlin of Granbury, Joe Turner and Peggy Shannon both of Pearland, Mark Barfield of Forrest Cove, Patricia McGlothlin Palmer of London, England and James McGlothlin of Houston and his beloved puppy, Tybalt. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to your favorite charity or to the Library at First Baptist Church where he was a volunteer for many years. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
