Stephen Michael Sanders, 35, of Los Angeles, Calif., passed away in Sierra Madre, Calif., on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Friday in Pecan Cemetery in Erath County. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Arlington Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration will follow the service until 4 p.m.

Stephen was born Jan. 20, 1974, in Arlington, where he grew up. He attended Martin High School and the University of Texas at Arlington, where he graduated in 1996 with a degree in theater arts. Recently, Stephen had been involved with the Union Rescue Mission in downtown Los Angeles, a faith-based program dedicated to providing assistance to the homeless of Los Angeles by providing recovery programs, education, job training and other services. Stephen had been volunteering at the mission and filming a documentary to get the word out about the mission's work. Stephen had also been involved in gang intervention in South Central Los Angeles. He wanted to work towards making the streets of Los Angeles a safer place and find ways to educate and empower Los Angeles youths.

Survivors: Parents, Floyd and Cora Sanders of Arlington; and sister, Rhonda Sanders of Austin.
