CRESSON, TX -- Robert Norman Hancock, 75, a retired mechanical engineer, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday in Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, with the Rev. Bill Hughes officiating, and 3 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home in Dublin.
Burial: Pecan Cemetery, Dublin.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wade Family Funeral Home.

Robert was born July 18, 1930, in Erath County to Raymond and Ona Hancock. He graduated from Dublin High School in 1947 and from Texas Tech in 1953 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was married to Clista Patterson on June 1, 1951, in Purves. To this union was born two sons, Gary and Paul.

Robert served two years in the Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and later worked in New Jersey and California. He joined Ling Temco Vought in 1962 and worked 31 years before retiring in 1993.

He was active in the national organization of the Institute of Environmental Sciences and was national president in 1979. Robert enjoyed hunting for fossils and gems in the Southwest and the family enjoyed many vacations in the pursuit of this hobby. He also enjoyed astronomy and had the goal of setting up an observatory in the back yard of his home. He loved visiting his farm in Erath County, his childhood home. Robert was president of the Pecan Cemetery Association for the past five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ona Hancock, in 1976; two sisters, Peggy Rusk and Ramona Thompson; and brother-in-law, Thurman Thompson.

Survivors: His wife, Clista of Cresson; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Vickie Hancock of Arlington; son, Paul Hancock of Dallas; grandchildren, Heather Hancock of Arlington and Ryan Hancock, now attending A&M University at College Station; sister, Martha Starnes and her husband, Joe; and a host of relatives and friends.
