ALEXANDER, WILLIAM (1814-1872) ~ William Alexander was born in Glasgow, Scotland. When he was eight, he and his family immigrated to Jackson County, New York. He grew up there and attended college at Yale where he graduated from the Yale Law School. Afterwards, he moved to Tuskeegee, received his license on January 11, 1850, and served on the supreme court of Alabama.

He then moved to Galveston, in the later part of 1850, but was not there for long when John Byler Mallard persuaded William to move to Palestine in Anderson County so that they could form a law practice together. Their third partner was John H. Reagan. On February 1, 1851, William received his license to practice before the Supreme Court.
A few years later, his law partner, Mallard died, and on March 8, 1857, William married his widow. Susan Scott Mallard Alexander had two children with William.

In 1858, William served as trustee for Palestine Female Academy and was chief justice of Anderson County from 1860 to 1865. He was Mason and a Presbyterian.
