Dorothy Grace Grau Gruber, born on December 9,1923, in Mt. Vernon, TX, died on April 29, 2012 in Plano,TX. She was the oldest daughter of Estle and Lura Olive Simons Grau. Not long after graduating as the Salutatorian of her senior class, Grace Grau, her father, and a brother rented an apartment in Shreveport where she met the love of her life, Leland Frank Gruber who was serving our country in World War II and based at Barksdale Field. On Nov 1, 1945, Leland married his bride, whom he called Dorothy, and moved to Illinois, where she was a homemaker, a seamstress, a waitress for the Illinois State Legislature lunch counter, a waitress for Mary's Cafe, Head Cashier for National Food Store, and an Auto Rater for Horace Mann Insurance. After Leland retired in 1976, they relocated to Garland, TX to be near family. In 1986 she retired from Texas Credit Union to care for her husband, Leland Gruber. After his death in 1988, she then worked in a law office, retiring when she moved to Carrollton with her daughters in 1998. She was an active and much loved member of Eastwood Christian Church for 20 years and a faithful and much loved member of Valley View Christian Church in Dallas for the last 17 years. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Jean and Denna Gruber, two sisters Marjorie Mott and Marlene Broome, numerous nieces, nephews, and a sister-in-law Dorothy Williams Grau. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers James Weldon Grau, Gerald Eugene Grau, Derwin Clyde Grau, and Billy Earl Grau. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00PM on Tuesday, May 1 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 2, at Valley View Christian Church, 17601 Marsh Lane, Dallas, TX, Brother Herman Cain officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon City Cemetery, Mt. Vernon TX.
