Progreso, TX - Steve Derek Munoz, 21, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 in Weslaco, TX. He was born on December 4, 1991 in Weslaco, TX to Mr. Miguel Munoz Jr. and Mrs. Valentina Munoz
Steve is survived by his brother Miguel Curtiz Munoz and sister Iris Ivette Munoz; his nephew Daren Adan Loa and his niece Kaylee Valerie Loa.
Steve served in the U.S. National Guard in Afghanistan from November of 2012 to July of 2013 holding a rank of E-4 SP Field Artillery Fire Support Specialist. He was a distinguished and respectable man, loving and caring friend, an exceptional and lovable son, a dear brother and uncle, and a role model to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held today; Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Chapel Service will be Monday, August 19, 2013 at 12 p.m. at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Officiating the Funeral Service will be Rev. Howard Bloomquist. Steve will receive full Military Honors and will be laid to rest at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission at 2 p.m.
