PHARR, TX - Federico "Fred" Murillo, 68, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Mr. Murillo was born in Torreon, Coahuila and had lived in Pharr most of his life.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam. He returned to the ARMY in 1977 as an officer stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany. He received his degree as a Pharmacist from the University of Houston. For eight years he traveled to Honduras as a volunteer Pharmacist with Mission Helping Hands.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Conrado and Candelaria Murillo; a brother, Salvador Gonzales; and a sister, Maria Del Refugio Gonzales.
Fred is survived by his wife, Corina Murillo, of Pharr; two children, Alex (Sylvia) Murillo, of Mission, Monica Murillo, of Pharr; three grandchildren, Andrew, Alexis and Corynna Murillo; four brothers, Juan Murillo, Jose Cruz Murillo, Angel Murillo, Francisco "Pancho" Murillo; and five sisters, Elena Alvarez, Martha Murillo, Rosario Murillo, Maria De Jesus Martinez and Carmela Gomez.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, September 9, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Cremation will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan
