Gone Before – Death of Miss Nina Young Last Monday.
About 1 o’clock last Monday afternoon Miss Nina’s spirit left its temple of clay, and has gone to solve the mystery of the great eternity. On Monday, July 28, Miss Young sent word to the REPORTER office, where she was acting as bookkeeper during the summer, that she did not feel well, and thought it best to remain at home and rest up. On Tuesday she was stricken with typhoid fever and was confined to her room until her death.
Miss Nina was born in Kosciusko, Miss.; September 1, 1871 and died August 11, 1890, her age being 18 years, 11 months and 10 days. The family moved to Abilene in 1884. After teaching school for several terms in this county, Miss Nina has for the past two years taught in Mobeetiee, Texas, returning to her home here to spend her vacations. This summer she was elected to a position in the public schools of this city, which she was to assume in September.
Miss Nina was a member of the Methodist church, and her young life was filled with Christian charity and usefulness. She leaves a widowed mother, two older sisters and two brothers to mourn her loss. But they do not mourn like those without hope, for the assurances of the Master lead them to look beyond the dark hour of parting to that bright and happy day of reunion, “When the mists have cleared away.”
The funeral was held at the residence Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock, and was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Hampton, whose words of sweet consolation fell like drops of oil on the wounded and bleeding hearts.
A hundred sorrowing friends and acquaintances attended the services, and followed the loved form of their late companion to the cemetery, where they laid it to rest until the morning of the resurrection, when they will again see her sweet, smiling countenance and clasp her gentle hand again. Rest in peace. Those who love thee will so live that they may greet thee in the “sweet bye and bye,” and enjoy thy dear companionship forevermore.
