Childress – J. F. Pieratt, Retired Farmer, Dies At Home. James Franklin Pieratt, aged 88, retired farmer and a resident of Childress County since 1905, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. J. Hassell, yesterday, April 2, 1949, after an illness of about five weeks. Pieratt was born June 15, 1860 in Morgan County, Kentucky, and settled near Kirkland after coming to the county from Coleman County, Texas. He began farming, and retired in 1924. He is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. W. P. Close of Kirkland; Mrs. Jess Key, Mrs Hassell, Mrs. Roy Key, Mrs. Ernest Adams, and Mrs. Emma Caradine, all of Childress; two sons, Russ Pieratt of Childress and Buford Pieratt of Amarillo; 28 grandchildren and 13 great grand-children. Services are to be conducted at the Kirkland Methodist Church at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. Marvin Brotherton of Matador, assisted by Rev. Carl Hudson, pastor, will officiate. Pallbearers, all grandsons, will be Sydney Key, Garth Close, Arthur Caradine, J. D. Hassell, James Hassell Jr, and Pink Close, Jr. Granddaughters will serve as flower girls. They will be Peggy Pieratt, Mrs. Lela Furr, Mrs. Irby Martindale, Mrs. Jean Parrish, Mrs. Catherine Nabers, Mrs. Allie Key, Mrs. Mildred Holman, Mrs. Billy Pringle, Mrs. Jackie Sanders, Mrs. Birdie Williamson, Sue Pieratt and Jo Beth Key. Interment will be in the Kirkland Cemetery under the direction of the Newberry Funeral Home
