Evelyn Lois Adams, 70, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Cox Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Umbarger.
Evelyn, known to many as Grannie or Aunt Evie, was born March 31, 1943, to Max and Rose Hoffman. She had eight siblings — Helen and late husband Carl Kleuskens of Amarillo, Anna and husband Dean Adams of Canyon, Betty and husband Bob Burgon of Foley, Ala., Maxey Hoffman, Mary and husband Darroll of Umbarger, Louise and husband Dan Hamner of Parrish, Fla., and Martha Hymer and Johnny and wife Barbara Hoffman of Amarillo.
Evelyn married her soul mate Carroll Adams on April 16, 1960, in Umbarger. It was in Umbarger that they shared 53 years of love and raised their four children — son Allen and wife Becky of Georgetown, daughter Anita of Umbarger, son Greg and wife Denice of Canyon and son Tim and wife Shonda of Friona. She was blessed with grandchildren Angie and husband Stan, Coleman, Amie, Misty and husband Robert, Maddie, Courtney and husband Richard, Roselyn, Chandler, Sam, Branston, Calvin and three great-grandchildren, Gemma, Hagen and Jordan, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger. She was a shining example of God's love to all she met. For more than 40 years, she was heavily involved in the Umbarger German Sausage Festival. At home, she was always cooking the family favorites — fried chicken and enchiladas. Her loved ones will always cherish their happy birthday voicemails from her.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her mom and dad, Max "Pappy" and Rose Hoffman; sisters, Martha Adams and Anna Adams; a brother, Maxey Hoffman.
