Denton (Valley) Community
In 1854 C W Denton Patented A Large Amount Of Land In Callahan County To Be Known As Denton Community And Later Called Denton Valley. Located Near The Corner Of Highway 36 And Farm To Marker 604 Was A Grist Mill, Cotton Gin, Post Office, Blacksmith Shop, General Store, Two Churches, Two Cemeteries And A School North Of Highway 36 On Farm To Market 605. 2.5 Miles The Old Cemetery, Now Called Pleasant Valley Was In Use In The 1880's. Five Miles Kendrick Cemetery Of Land Donated By Harvey Kendrick In 1926. Five Miles The Baptist Church Began In 1910 On Land Deeded By T W Keblinger And Is Still In Operation..1 Miles The Methodist Church On Land Donated By Tack Holland Started In 1882 And Burned On January 5, 1974.
The Denton School District Was Petitioned On April 13, 1899 By Trustees T B Holland, Worth Williams And Mat Crawford. The First School Was Located 15 Miles South Of Highway 36 On Farm To Market Road 604 On Land Donated By C H Willeford. In 1923 Denton Rough Creek, Pleasant View And Eagle Cove Consolidated And Moved 15 Miles North Of Highway 36 On Farm To Market Road 604. Later Dudley Consolidated With Denton in 1938. The School Continued Until November 14, 1936 When It Was Annexed To The Clyde School District And Closed.
