William "Bill" Daniel Lessing, Sr., 81, of Abilene, died Monday, August 25, 2003 in a local care center. Memorial services will be at 10 AM Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest with the Rev. Scott Mayer and the Rev. Roz Thomas officiating. Private burial will be at the Eula Cemetery directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Mr. Lessing was born in Waco, TX and reared in Abilene where he was a 1938 graduate of Abilene High School and a graduate of Hardin Simmons University in 1949. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in World War II. He married Mary Ellen Klaper in Coleman, TX May 17, 1947. He worked at the Stamford Production Credit Association for one year before working at the Abilene City Tax Assessor-Collector, and then worked for Western Chevrolet. He was employed by Central Freight Lines, Inc in Waco, TX. He then worked at the Abilene Savings Association, later known as the United Savings Association of Texas, until retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Abilene Chapter of Dale Carnegie Alumni Association, Abilene Junior Chamber of Commerce, Abilene Chamber of Commerce, Abilene State School Volunteer Council and the Optimist Club. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen of Abilene; sons, Dan and wife, Vicky Lessing of Abilene and Reggie Lessing of Abilene; daughter, Kay Hinsley and husband, Don of Wellington, TX; grandchildren, Michelle Lessing of Lubbock, Danielle Lessing of Abilene, Mackenzie Wickham of Plainview, TX, Andrea Wickham of Rockdale, TX, Kris Hinsley of Comanche, OK, Heath and Heather Hinsley of Duncan, OK; sisters Janice Schwart and Gloria Miller, both of Dallas; and a brother – Wilfrid Lessing of Waco, TX.
Memorials may be made to Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center in Abilene, TX.
