This is my 2nd Great Grandfather
Son of James Offied & Eliza Powers Offield
*Obituary - J. P. Offield
Died at the home of his son December 27th, the subject of this notice. He was born in Washington, Co., TX, June 9, 1841. At an early age, Mr. Offield enlisted in the Confederate army and served with distinction all through the war, as a private in the 12th Texas Cavalry. He was a consistant member of the Christian church since his early manhood. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Bounds, who survives him, together with five sons and one daughter. He has living also one brother. His children are J.A., T.J. and A.A. Offield of this place, M.M. and J.W. Offield of Thorndale and Mrs. A.R. Hobbs of Elgin.
Deceased had been in bad health for some time, and relizing that he could not live long at best, his son. Mr. A.A. Offield, brought him to his home in this place where he was the recipient of the best attention that a devoted son and daughter, as well the skill of the best physicians, but to no avail. His death occured as noted above and on Wednesday, December 29th, his remains were placed to rest by loving hands in the Ellison Ridge burying grounds. Deceased was one of the very best citizens of Milan county, honest and upright in all his dealings, and when it is truthfully said that he was an upright man we feel that no higher compliment can be paid to the memory of any man. To the bereaved relatives the Reported extends condolence, and predicts a happy reunion in the beautiful beyond, where al will be peace without the heartaches of this world.
