Obit:
Dulcia Faye Williams Murray, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother passed peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2018 in Andrews, Texas during her 89th year.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 7, 2018, graveside at Woodmen Cemetery at De Kalb, Texas with her nephew James Boyd Strain officiating. Interment will be under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home, Andrews, Texas.
Dulcia was born in Spring Hill in East Texas on August 25, 1928 to Art Lee and Mattie Belle (Shaver) Williams, the tenth of their eleven children. As a child, she worked on the farm and attended Spring Hill schools, graduating high school just after WWII. She entered East Texas Teacher College, graduating in 1950, and spent her first-year teaching in Kermit, Texas. On December 28, 1950 she married her childhood sweetheart Joe B. (Bob) Murray, who had returned from serving during WWII and who also had grown up on a nearby farm in Spring Hill. She moved with him to where he was newly stationed during the Korean War as a Ranger paratrooper at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In North Carolina, she taught high school business and English, where she often recalled some of their fondest memories as young newlyweds, driving their only car nearly two hours each morning for work. Leaving before dawn to navigate two-lane congested roads, they would drive in one direction to take Bob to his quarters 15 miles away, then she would return home and drive in the opposite direction another 15 miles to be at her school to teach. At the end of the day, they would repeat the long process, but always with pleasure, as it gave them more time to be together. While in North Carolina, she directed her first school play, one of many she would produce during her long career and was called upon to chaperone the annual high school senior trip to Myrtle Beach, a daunting task and a testament to the faith school personnel placed in her, given she was only a few years older herself. In 1953 following the Korean War, they moved during an oil and gas boom to Jal, New Mexico where her husband completed his 30+ year career in the natural gas industry, and where she completed her 35-year career in the Jal Public School system, teaching third grade. A lifelong Methodist, Dulcia served as a Sunday school teacher in the First United Methodist Church of Jal. She truly loved being a teacher, helping to mold and shape young lives, and was dedicated to her profession, earning honors and the respect of administrators, colleagues and generations of families alike. She also found great joy in her role as a wife, mother and grandmother, and she was a trusted confidant to many in her life. All of us were blessed to have her wise counsel and steadfast love, and we will carry the memory of her love, her beautiful smile and graceful, guiding hands in our hearts forever.
Dulcia was preceded in death by her parents Art and Mattie Belle (Shaver) Williams; her husband’s parents D. C. and Lucy (Gay) Murray; all her siblings and their spouses; and her husband’s brother.
Survivors: husband and soul mate of 67 years, Bob Murray; daughters Brenda (Sam) Weir of Fort Worth, Texas; Gina (Rick) Miller of Jal, New Mexico; three granddaughters Taelor (Dusty) Loftis of Jal, New Mexico; Jane Weir of Fort Worth, Texas; Kay Weir of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law Loleta Murray of De Kalb, Texas and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.
Memorial consideration of sending expression of sympathy may be sent to Methodist Children’s Home, 1111 Herring Ave, Waco, Texas 76708.
