Walter Roland Maxey was born on May 3, 1922 to Jackson G. "Jack" and Katie Oretha (Wood) Maxey in Jack County, Texas. He passed away at his home in Jacksboro, Texas on Friday August 19, 2011. He was 89 years old.

Roland married Mary Armilda Rhodes on January 25, 1947 at the Barton Chapel Methodist Church in Jack County. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of the 536th Amphibious Tractor Battalion. He was a member of the Live Oak Baptist Church and retired from the Texas Department of Transportation after over 17 years but most of all he was a cattleman, that was his passion and his work.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Ray Maxey.

Among those left behind to lovingly cherish his memory include his wife Mary Maxey of Jacksboro; his daughters Linda Cullender and husband Burr of Claude, Texas, Barbara Cantrell and husband Phil of Lubbock, Texas, Mary Jo Cain and husband James of Jacksboro and Marlene Hughes and husband James of Jacksboro, Texas; sister Leone Sampson of Plano, Texas, brother Richard Maxey of El Paso, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

There will be a visitation at Coker Funeral Home on Sunday, August 21, 2011 from 4 to 5 pm.

Services will be Monday August 22, 2011 at Live Oak Baptist Church at 10 am with Kenneth Reiter and Eugene Weldon officiating and burial following at Wood Cemetery in Jack County, Texas.
