*HANKAMMER OVERVIEW

Hankammer Cemetery
Comal County,
Texas

This cemetery is an old small family cemetery, with no marked graves. Oral history passed down suggests that two or three graves exist here, perhaps for one woman and two children. The booklet "Lest We Forget" published by the Comal County Genealogy Society in 1989 lists this cemetery on page 170, indicating that there are two graves for the children of Willie Hankammer (presumably Georg Wilhelm Hankammer, 1801-1846), who'd immigrated to Texas with his family in 1845. He did have two children that died as young adults, Carl (1839-1865) and Henriette (1845-1861), which may be the persons in this cemetery. Today, the cemetery is preserved in a modern sub-division having a metal cross, an angel statue and some bricks marking the location. Iris, presumably planted long ago, have spread to cover the site as well.
