Frederick is reported to have been working on a ranch near his grave, but fell ill so he rode his horse to the old Spring Branch store, got some medicine, but died near this spot on his return trip, where he was found later. It is uncertain whether he is buried at this spot, or whether this is simply a memorial built later in the vicinity. The concrete slab and fence were added much later. Finally, in the 1990's, a gravestone was prepared and affixed to the concrete slab.
Frederick married Catherine Ann Franz on 5-Jun-1854 in Calhoun Co., Texas. She and 3 children are found in the 1900 census (after Frederick's death) in Guadalupe County, indicating she bore 12 children of which 7 were then living. She is reported to have died in 1910, but her grave is yet unknown.
