Death 13 Jul 1995 (aged 76)Kenneth M. Crider, 88, passed away October 1, 2005, in the North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville. There will be no service or visitation. Interment will be on October 5, 2005, in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of George J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home.

Kenneth was born in Chilton, Texas, to the late G. M. and Bercha (Luedke) Crider. On June 19, 1942, he married Grace Cranfill in Waco. He attended Baylor University for two years. Kenneth was employed by Lane Wells Company, working in Houston and Corpus Christi.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Aviation Cadet Program in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy for 20½ years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. During World War II, Kenneth served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater in combat with the Japanese and received several decorations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, and medals for his service.

After retiring from the Navy, Kenneth was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration, first in its Washington Headquarters and then as a B-707 and DC-8 Air Carrier Operations Inspector. During his service with the Navy and the FAA, he logged over 8000 flight hours and flew 28 different types of aircraft, from multi-engine seaplanes to the B-747. In 1960, he flew twice the speed of sound (Mach II) at Edwards AFB.

From the age of 10, Kenneth was a Southern Baptist and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville since November 9, 1975, where he served as a member of the deacon body. He was ordained as a Deacon at Boulevard Baptist Church, Falls Church, VA, in 1964.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, on July 13, 1996; a sister, Janice McNair; and a brother, Billy Crider.

Survivors include his daughter, Kerry L. Towle, of Ellicot City, Md.; and a son, Kenneth Lee Crider, of Springfield, VA.
