Edwin served in the Army Air Corps as a tail gunner on a b-17 plane from 1943 to 1945.
He was employed by the Gainesville Nat'l Bank at the age of 15 as a book keeper and advanced to become President and Chairman of the board. He was a member of Whaley United Methodist Church, was active in the Optimist Club, served on the Gainesville Memorial Hospital Board and was active in the Boys Girls Clubs.


In the presence of loving family, Mary Frances (Strader) Alexander passed away on May 30, 2017.

Mary was born on July 8, 1926 in Gainesville, to Aubrey Strader and Faye (Chanslor) Strader of Era, Texas, where she spent her early years.

She graduated from the University of North Texas and worked for a time as secretary to the superintendent of Gainesville schools. She married Edwin Alexander in June of 1948. Known for her bright smile and easy laugh, Mary loved her community and her family. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, and visiting around town.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Williamson and husband Roger of Cypress; her granddaughter Jenna Bredehoeft and husband Phil of Dallas; her grandson Alex Williamson of Pearland; her great-granddaughter Brooklyn Bredehoeft of Dallas; her sister-in-laws Jane Alexander, Reba Handwerk, and Helen Roberson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A special thanks to three women who made a special effort to make these last few years easier for her: Linda Becker, Cynthia Christy, and Nancy Moore.

Funeral services for Mary will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday June 3, 2017 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM Saturday, one hour before the service.

Donations in Mary’s honor may be made to the Whaley United Methodist Church or the Cooke County Boys and Girls Club.
