A memorial service for Charles Russell (Charlie) Young, Jr., 80, of Gainesville, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Kremling officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mr. Young passed away May 19, 2013 in Gainesville. He was born May 10, 1933 to Charles Russell and Louise Lydstone Young, Sr. in Gloucester Massachusetts.

Charlie was one of a kind and was befriended by many. Charlie retired from the City of Gainesville Utilities Department in 1987 after thirty years of service. He owned and operated Young's Rubber Stamps for over forty years and he was the operator of several water and wastewater systems in the area. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and was stationed in Wichita Falls when he met the girl he would marry, Mary Lou. After retirement, you seldom saw Charlie without his wife Mary Lou beside him. He later was stationed in Waco, Tx. where their first son Ronny was born. They moved to Gainesville in 1956 where Charlie became the meter reader for the City of Gainesville. In 1957 they had their second son Donald Russell and then in 1960 there third son Kenneth Ray was born. Charlie served as a coach for all three of his sons Little League teams and seldom missed any activities that they were involved with. Charlie believed that you had to work for everything that you got and worked very hard to obtain his GED and then began attending night classes at what is now North Central Texas College where he graduated in 1974. He was a member of the Texas Water Utilities Association for over 50 years and missed only a couple of monthly meetings during that time. Charles was loved by many for the special person that he was!

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Ronny and Debbie Young of Lake Kiowa, Tx., Donny Young and India Atteberry of Gainesville, and Kenny and Mija Young of Denton, Tx.; and sister and brother-in-law Ronnie and Charlene Newman of Gloucester, Ma. He is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two nieces and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 58 years Mary Lou Winters Young.
