Durwood was born in Wesley Chapel and had lived in Houston County most of his lifetime. He graduated from Latexo High School.
Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Johnson was retired from Western Electric in Houston and he had also worked for Windham School District where he was a vocational electrical trades teacher and was a member of the Church of God
