Dude was the second son born to Bob & Ima Johnson, he was born on the Dean Place in Wesley Chapel, and attended school in Wesley Chapel.

In 1942, he entered the Army. Pvt Robert F Johnson trained at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. He served in AP, was awarded GCM, Combat Inf Badge, Purple Heart, AP Ribbon, 2 Battle Stars, and the WWII Victory Metal. He was wounded at Guadalcanal in 1943, and was discharged in 1944.

He retired from The Texas Highway Department, and became Papa Dude. He and Grammie loved their grandchildren, and their Church. He was a member of the Church of God since he was a child.

He was a gentle and loving man, who loved his family, and this niece loved him extra special.
