When Virginia Mae McLaughlin was born on February 26, 1906, in Columbus, Ohio, her father, John, was 26, and her mother, Elizabeth, was 23. She had three children with Robert William Pierce. She died on October 23, 1994, in Olalla, Washington, at the age of 88.
