Nineteen Year Old Takes Own Life At Echo Sunday Eve
Carl Snow, 19 year old son of Mr and Mrs J C Snow of Echo Community, Committed suicide Sunday afternoon about 5:30 o'clock near a water tank in a pasture two miles northeast of the little town. A single barrel twelve gauge shot gun loaded with No 7 shot was used. The charge entered the boy's body just above the heart and severed the big artery leading to the head. His breast was badly power burned. He lived about 45 minutes and was conscious nearly all the time. Neighbors were attracted to the scene by the report of the gun. When they arrived the gun was still smoking and the victim was lying in a pool of blood. Before pulling the trigger young Snow wrote two letters. One was addressed to his father and mother and the other to a friend. Both were wrapped around the gun, tied with a handkerchief and pinned with a mesquite thorn. The notes were turned over to officers and members of the family and their contents have not been divulged.
Young Snow was born in Coleman county, December 22, 1906, and had lived within its confines all his life. He is survived by his mother and father, five sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were conducted at the Howe cemetery Monday afternoon by Reverend Harvey Miller under the direction the the J E Stevens undertaking parlor. The tragedy was the climax of a series of unfortunate circumstances that have besieged the family during the past year. Mrs Snow mother of Carl, recently was in a brown wood hospital with complications arising from an attack of influenza and barely escaped death. Later a baby died the the principle in the Sunday tragedy not long ago underwent an operation for appendicitis. No reason for the action of young Snow has been advanced. He was apparently in good health and his mind was clear.
