When Albert Donovan Grant was born on March 21, 1841, in Evergreen, Alabama, his father, Chauncy, was 38 and his mother, Temperance, was 34. He married Sarah Ann Smith on July 25, 1861, in Sabine, Texas. They had nine children in 20 years. He died on January 18, 1908, in Aspermont, Texas, at the age of 66, and was buried in Peacock, Texas.
