Charlie Hux Killed Day Before Truce
Pfc. Charlie E. Hux, 22, was killed in action in Korea the day before the armistice was signed. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Hux of near Milano.
Mr. and Mrs. Hux received official word from the government at 5:30 p.m. Friday that their son had been killed in Korean fighting on Saturday, July 25.
Pfc. Hux was a tank driver with the 140th Tank Battalion. He had been in the Army for about a year and had been sent overseas in April. Prior to overseas shipment, he was stationed at Fort Hood.
Young Hux was raised on his father's farm near Milano and attended the Milano school. He had worked for several years before entering the Army.
Survivors are his parents; one brother, Garland Hux of near Milano; five sisters, Berenda Hux of near Milano, Mrs. Alden Swenson of Austin, Mrs. Jack Marrs of Austin, Mrs. Bernard Zalesky of Cameron, and Mrs. Edwin Poshival of Arizona. He was the nephew of Mrs. Leonard Baldwin of Cameron.

Our community was saddened by the news of the death of Charlie Hux, who was killed on the Korean battlefront Saturday, July 25. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Hux and had been in Korea only a short while.

Milam County GI On Casualty List
Pfc. Charlie E. Hux of Milam County was listed as killed in action on the Defense Department's latest Korean was casualty list.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Hux, who live in the Hanover community, 13 miles from Cameron.
Private Hux had been in Korea about nine months.

Final Rites To Be Held Sunday For Pfc. Hux
The body of Pfc. Charlie E. Hux, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Hux, is scheduled to arrive in Cameron, October 2, at approximately 5:50 a. m. on the Topeka-Santa Fe train.
Upon arrival, the body will be at Marek-Burns Funeral Chapel until the funeral hour.
Services will be held at the Liberty Church, Sunday, October 4, 1953, at 3:00 p. m. Rev. Calvin Springer, a former school mate of the deceased will officiate. Burial will be made in the Liberty cemetery.
Military ceremony, under the director of the American Legion and Fort Hood will be held at the graveside.
Pfc. Hux entered the army on October 14, 1952. He was a member of Company C. 140th Tank Battalion and was killed while fighting in Korea.
His body arrived aboard the ship USS Mankato Victory, which arrived at the San Francisco port of embarkation Thursday, Sept. 24.
Pfc. Hux attended school in Milano and was a member of the local National Guard for two years, prior to his entering the army.
Pfc. Hux is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Hux of Milano, one brother, Garland Wayne Hux of Milano, and five sisters, Mrs. Allen Swendson of Austin, Mrs. Jack Morris of Austin, Mrs. Bernard Zalesky of Cameron, Mrs. Dorothy Posival of Cameron and Miss Brenda Joy Hux of Milano.
He is also survived by one uncle, Lee Hux of Cameron and five aunts, Mrs. Jessie Martin of Christine, Texas, Mrs. Scelina Baldwin of Cameron, Mrs. Maynda Williams of Rosebud, Mrs. Angelina Weddle of Cameron and Mrs. Ethel Gaines of Kaufman, Texas.
