MELTON FANNY LEE BLEDSOE, 101, was born June 4, 1899 in Lancaster, Texas to William B. and Lousetta Madora Bledsoe and passed away peacefully Thursday, April 5, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence R. Melton, who was an early civic leader of Dallas. Fanny was a descendant of the Bledsoe family, founders of the community of Lancaster, Texas. Prior to her death, she was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church of Dallas. Fanny was active in many service and social organizations during the 75 years she lived in Dallas. She was a dedicated worker in the
American Red Cross during and after World War II and held offices in the Dallas Woman's Forum, The Eastern Star and Parkland Hospital Auxiliary. Fanny held office in the Women's Auxiliary to the Dallas County Hospital District. She was a long-time volunteer at the Wadley Institutes of Molecular Medicine. Fanny made many contributions in the benevolent, civic, and educational fields of Dallas. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church where she and Laurence were married in 1922 by the late George W. Truett, Pastor."
