When Ethel McCourt was born on February 8, 1897, in Frankfort, Kentucky, her father, Thomas, was 28, and her mother, Lou, was 22. She married Alfred Lafate JAMES and they had nine children together. She also had one son from another relationship. She died on February 9, 1961, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 64, and was buried there.

When Alfred Lafate JAMES was born on October 10, 1890, in Batesville, Arkansas, his father, Drewry, was 36 and his mother, Sophronia, was 30. He married Ethel McCourt on February 4, 1915. They had nine children in 19 years. He died on December 22, 1984, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 94, and was buried there.
