When Kate Pearl *Katie* Bellar was born on July 4, 1895, in Pilot Point, Texas, her father, Isaac, was 30, and her mother, Martha, was 30. She married Horton Houston Scherer on August 21, 1918, in her hometown. They had three children during their marriage. She died on January 17, 1988, in Henrietta, Texas, at the age of 92.
