Martha was born in Seminole, Texas on April 1, 1947 to Robert and Eloise Matthews. She was the first of three children born. Gary Matthews, her brother, still lives in Seminole and her younger sister Margie Kendal lives in Conroe, Texas. Martha was raised on a farm in Seminole to very hard working parents. She graduated from Seminole High School and then attending college at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas where she met her future husband, David Hubert Cavitt.

Martha and David were married on November 25, 1966 in Seminole, Texas. Martha had four children: Laura Whitehead, Jerry Cavitt, John Cavitt, and Stephen Cavitt. Martha was an amazing woman who juggled full time work and housework while raising her family in Amarillo, Texas from 1966-1967, in Seminole, Texas from 1967-1975, then in Whiteface, Texas from 1975-1987, in Silverton, Texas 1987-1991 in Midland, Texas from 1991-2013, and finally in Richmond, Texas from 2013-2018.

Martha completed an Associate Degree from Midland College in 1997 and a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management in 2001. She was skilled and respected in the Human Resources industry working for prominent oil companies such as ARCO, BP and Pure Energy Services while living in Midland. Martha and David eventually moved to Richmond in their retirement to enjoy being closer to their son John and his family, and daughter, Laura and her family. She loved to work. She also was an amazing mother who raised her children while suffering from chronic lung and heart problems, yet she always found the energy to keep a smile on and make lunch or dinner for whoever came to see her.

Martha was respected and deeply loved by her husband David, her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is often remembered by her church friends and neighbors as the “sweetest and kindest woman I have ever known.” Martha was a composed and beautiful woman who was kind to all. She will be missed immensely yet her legacy will live on through all those who knew her and her family who adore her.

Martha was blessed to enjoy 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Robert and Eloise Matthews of Seminole. Her loving brother, Gary Matthews still lives in Seminole with his wife Marsha.
