Dr. Isaac Rogers Riddle founded Damascus Cemetery Upon The Death Of His Son, Cyrus Mann Riddle. In April 1868, Dr. Riddle Was The Pastor At Damascus Missionary Baptist Church, and He Buried His Son Near The Church On What He Thought Was His Land. When He Later Determined That The Property Belonged To Joshua Stephens, Stephens Gave Two Ares To The Church To Establish A Community Cemetery. Nearby Mining Has Permanently Erased Most Traces Of The Damascus Community, Leaving Only The Small Church And Cemetery As Reminders Of The Past. The Cemetery Is The Resting Place of Dr. Riddle and Several Well-Known Titus County Families Including The Bragg, Bridges, Hinson and Plum Families.
