Charles Edward Akin, son of the late Guy and Ramah Lee Akin,passed away on April 3, 2012 in Gainesville, Texas. Charles was born and raised at the cross roads in Floyd, Arkansas, where he never met a stranger.

Charles played on several semi-pro baseball teams during the1950s and enjoyed keeping up with baseball his entire life. He was a veteran, baptist and worked as a pipe fitter and welder at various companies in Texas until his retirement.

Charles was married to Bettye Frances (Mott) Akin, the love of his life, for 41 years.. He is survived by two sons, Randall Lee Akin and his wife Robin of Houston, andRonald Edward Akin of Denton. Charles is also survived by a sister, Betty Jean Hill, and a niece, JeanBeth Hill,both of Little Rock, Arkansas.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Rev. Bob Carlock and his wife Eloise and Jeanne Schneiderjan who were Charles’s special friends and caregivers for many years. We also wish to thank all of the many friends who supported Charles through the years, either in person or by telephone.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Geo. J.Carroll and Son Funeral Home in Gainesville. A graveside service to celebrate Charles’life will be held on April 5, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with the Reverend Bob Carlock officiating under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll and Son funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice and you may sign the online registry at geojcarroll.com
