Ruth Wilson Greene, former resident of Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011. For the past 18 months, Mrs. Greene had lived at Stonegate Nursing Center in Fort Worth. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fort Worth. Interment: Her ashes were interred Saturday, March 12, in Wilbarger Memorial Park in Vernon. Memorials: Donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice or a favorite charity in lieu of flowers.

Ruth was born May 28, 1914, to Jep and Adelia Selvidge Wilson in Terrell, Okla. She graduated from Terrell High School in 1932 and attended Oklahoma State Teachers College for a semester before returning home to marry James Albert Greene in 1933. Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; seven sisters; and her beloved husband, Jim.

Survivors: Children, retired Command Sgt. Maj. James E. and Christa Greene of Puyallup, Wash., Bill D. Greene of Dallas and Cecelia Speer of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Russel Greene of Lubbock, Mark and Lori Tankersley of Rainier, Wash., Steven Tankersley of Puyallup, Wash., and Leslie and Greg Sproat and Alexandra Speer, all of Dallas; and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Megan Tankersley of Rainier, Wash., and Adam and Ashley Greene of Lubbock.

When James Albert Greene was born on October 29, 1907, in Texas, his father, Oscar, was 30 and his mother, Martha, was 32. He had six siblings. He died on August 13, 1966, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of 58.
