Mary Nell Barnes died on October 5, 2006 at the Rankin Hospital in Rankin, Texas.
Mary Nell was born in Rising Star, Texas on December 8, 1920. She was the youngest of three children born to Ethel Angel Barnes and Bill Barnes.
Mary Nell graduated from Rising Star High School and worked for some time at the Higginbotham Store in Rising Star before moving to Dallas in 1944. In Dallas she worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for many years and also worked for the Department of Labor.
Mary Nell became a Christian at a young age and became a member of Gaston Ave. Baptist Church, now Gaston Oaks Baptist Church, when she moved to Dallas. She has been a member there for more than 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Howard and Billy Barnes.
She is survived by three nephews and their wives, Mike Barnes of Vashon, Washington, Steve and Lynn Barnes of Friday Harbor, Washington and Reg and Carol Barnes of Gilbert Arizona. She is also survived by six great-nephews and many long time friends including Kathleen Wheeler, Juanita and Billy Ross Wheeler, Barbara and Charles Wheeler all of Rankin, Texas and Dorothy Myers and Mary Francis McKenzie of Dallas, Texas.
Service will be held at the Higginbotham Funeral Home in Rising Star, Texas on Monday October 9, 2006 at 1:00 PM. Graveside service will follow in the Rising Star Cemetery.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. McClean and all the nurses in the Rankin Hospital for their loving care, attention and support while Mary Nell was a patient there.
