When Samuel Clifton Starr was born on August 3, 1895, in Wilbarger, Texas, his father, James, was 46 and his mother, Georgia, was 42. He married Zelma Beatrice ("Tommie") Simmonds on November 24, 1919, in his hometown. They had two children during their marriage. He died on April 21, 1962, in Kilgore, Texas, at the age of 66, and was buried in Vernon, Texas.
